{"product_id":"motion-in-language-and-experience","title":"Motion in Language and Experience","description":"Motion has attracted much attention in the field of semantics. In cognitive\nsemantics, it is seen as a basic and universal domain for language and cognition.\nIn semantic typology, languages have been suggested to follow a binary typology\nof “motion events”. However, the validity of these claims has been disputed in\nrelation to cross-linguistic diversity.\nBy bringing together insights from Husserlian phenomenology and Cognitive\nLinguistics, Motion in Language and Experience develops a framework for\naddressing important questions in contemporary semantics. In order to account\nfor both universality and variation across languages, this framework proposes\nthat linguistic meaning is motivated from experience, but strongly adaptable to\nlanguage-specific conventions.\nSemantic and typological issues are addressed in two cross-linguistic studies\ncarried out with speakers of Swedish, French and Thai. The first study investigates\nthe expression of actual motion, where an object changes its position against a\nbackground. The second study focuses on the expression of non-actual motion,\nwhere motion expressions are used to describe situations without any apparent\npositional change, such as The road runs through the forest.","brand":"Media-Tryck","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":32423959101540,"sku":"9789187833014","price":40.95,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true}],"url":"https:\/\/suomalainen-test.myshopify.com\/products\/motion-in-language-and-experience","provider":"Suomalainen Test","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
