{"product_id":"watermarks-urban-flooding-and-memoryscape-in-argentina","title":"Watermarks : urban flooding and memoryscape in Argentina","description":"The relationship between social experience and action in the context\nof recurrent disasters is often thought of in terms of adaptation. This\nstudy problematises this assumption from an anthropological perspective\nby analysing the memoryscape that mediates past experiences\nof disasters. The inquiry is based on translocal and transtemporal\nethnographic fieldwork conducted in 2004-2011 in the flood-prone\ncity of Santa Fe in Argentina. The study examines how past flooding\nis remembered by flood victims in the middle- and low-income\ndistricts and by activists of the protest movement that emerged in\nthe wake of the 2003 flood. It deals with flood memory in the local\nbureaucracy, in local historiography, myths and popular culture. The\nanalysis reveals that the Santafesinian flood memoryscape is dynamically\nconfigured by evocative, reminiscent and commemorative\nmodes of remembering, which are expressed in multiple forms, ranging\nfrom memorials and rituals to bureaucratic documents, infrastructure\nand everyday practices. The study addresses the relationship\nbetween memory, morality and social inequality and discusses\nthe implications for questions regarding vulnerability, resilience and\nadaptation.","brand":"Stockholm University","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":32443242250340,"sku":"9789187235269","price":15.95,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true}],"url":"https:\/\/suomalainen-test.myshopify.com\/products\/watermarks-urban-flooding-and-memoryscape-in-argentina","provider":"Suomalainen Test","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
